Standing up for You

Riley Wells
Mike and Susan's close friends, Laurel and Randy Brown, celebrating Early Voting.

Political campaigns too often depend on contributions by wealthy individuals, corporations, lobbyists, and other special interests that have little or no stake in the people who live and work in our community. Our state representatives have typically taken contributions from giant corporations like Exxon Mobil Corporation, Political Action Committees like those representing “too big to fail” Wall Street banks or New York City real estate developers, and lobbyists for pharmaceutical companies. Those contributions come with strings attached – our representatives accepting those contributions are likely to listen more to those contributors than the people who should count most: the residents, families, small businesses, and employers of our District.

Mike Bobseine’s campaign is different. Mike is using New York’s innovative Public Campaign Finance Program. This program allows individuals – just regular people who live in Mike’s Assembly District – to make small dollar donations and have those donations matched with state funds.

The Public Campaign Finance Program allows qualifying candidates to receive matched funds from the state of New York. A contribution as small as $5 is multiplied many times over by the state into a contribution that makes a true difference in a campaign.

Only the donations of individuals who live in the District, essentially the residents of Chautauqua County and the Seneca Nation of Indians’ Cattaraugus Territory, are eligible for public matching.

Mike’s grassroots campaign is relying on hundreds of people residing in the District making small dollar donations of $5.00, $10.00, $25.00 – and no more than $250.00 – to qualify for matching state money and help fund his campaign.

Unlike the elected Republicans who represent voters in our District, Mike is not accepting Exxon Mobil or other corporation money or Political Action Committee money or lobbyists’ money or special interests’ money.

When you donate $5 to Mike’s campaign, you’re not buying influence. You are promoting the interests of the people of the 150th District –

  • People who want the best possible education for our children.

  • People who want affordable and accessible health care.

  • People who want to start a business or have a good-paying job.

  • People who want affordable housing.

  • People who want to live in a safe, sustainable, and inclusive community.

With Mike’s use of the Public Campaign Finance Program, wealthy individuals and special interests have a significantly reduced advantage over the everyday people and voters of our District.

Mike wants to bring your power to Albany. When Mike takes his seat – our seat – in the Assembly, it won't be because of big banks or big oil or big pharma, but because of you. When Mike takes up our causes in Albany, he will be responsible only to you and our friends, families, neighbors, and community. When Mike sits down at our seat in Albany, we can all stand up, be proud, and get to work together making our District and our state a better place.
